Learning

Overall, learning to connect emblems and logos to the quality of work I read was more interesting than the research paper. Though finding and making the emblems relatable to the work was much more difficult, it enabled me to look deeper into the meanings of certain aspects of the novel itself. I definitely had to pull a lot out of the mind of the main character in order to fully understand the storyline, and I also had to look closer at the situations Dolly experienced in the city she lived in. It definitely was important to read Macnab’s Decoding Design first because she shows you how to look for certain things in a logo and how to make logos simple yet effective. In order to fully understand what goes on behind a finished logo, Macnab’s principles on every number really helped the process. This was a completely different learning experience than if I was to just write a research paper, as well as doing part one of my blog.

When looking for a logo or emblem to fit into each memo and category of the novel, it took a lot of searching and imagination. After finding something that you believe can fit with your work, it takes time to really analyze each feature of that logo in order to get the best explanation and full effect. I definitely learned a lot more about logos and brands and how to compare them not only to numbers, but also to the different facets of a literary work. I think that making the logos/emblems were the hardest part, especially since I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to Photoshop, but I think that learning something outside of your comfort level is what this project was all about and I ended up actually enjoying doing artwork on a computer. :)
