Aesthetics
The overall aesthetic I have chosen that I believe exemplifies the overall tone of each memo is “no limitations.” After carefully learning and researching about each individual memo, I have come to the conclusion that no matter what the memo is, each one has an endless amount of information to lend, and can be relatable to so many things. The emblem that most personifies the idea of “no limitations” is none other than that of the infinity sign. The infinity sign means something that is unbounded, like each memo of lightness, quickness, exactitude, visibility, and multiplicity can be seen as. It refers to several distinct concepts, but is usually linked to the idea of “without end,” which also refers to the idea that each memo has no exact limitation or definition, but can be described in any way that one may feel fits.
There is no limit to what each of Calvino’s memos can do and that must be why he felt they were all so necessary for the future millennium. Lightness resembles weightlessness, which is an unlimited characteristic, especially when compared to wood floating on water. Quickness identifies with the idea that writing can establish a connection between everything existent or possible like the rapidness of a magician’s hand and the nonstop amazement of the audience. Calvino believes exactitude is not always about ideas of limits but ideas that evoke the endless. Visual images that come directly from the mind of the writer prevail as a continual process through visibility as well. Lastly, multiplicity represents “no limitations” because it is so complex to define. Though each memo portrays an individual idea, they come together to bring an overall sense of infinite limits.
