About

My name is Dana Waschitz and I am a senior at the University of Florida majoring in English. This blog comes from an Internet Literature class taught by Professor Ulmer that I am currently taking during my last semester here. Throughout this blog, the main focus will be on Italo Calvino’s Six Memos for the Next Millenium and will discuss how important his memos are for the future of literature. The memos include: lightness, quickness, exactitude, visibility, and multiplicity. This semester’s project is a blog that discusses these memos along with discussions on our very own emblems and analogies that correlate with these memos, incorporating everyday experiences and knowledge that relate to each quality.

As you visit this site, you will also notice the examples used from Electronic Literature online and N. Katherine Hayles’ book Electronic Literature. The use of these examples have helped tie in Calvino’s ideas to my own and exemplify how important Electronic literature has become today. What I have learned about and experienced are what make up my emblems and analogies and the comparisons made are very interesting when in contrast with Calvino’s and Hayles’ books. It is also interesting to notice that the overall ideas of each memo can be compared and for all there is an underlying theme consisting of no limitations.

This blog is very informative and continues to put forth Calvino’s goals as a writer and how important these memos are. And if nothing else, you will learn about processes you may not have known about before, while finding different and interesting symbols that help sum up each memo. Thank you and enjoy!
